What possesses a person to go so high, lose so much energy and take such risks, just to reach that one summit? After 15 years of mountaineering as an amateur and without sponsorship, I climbed the summit of Manaslu in Nepal (8163 m) in 2023 (2nd attempt). Higher and higher over many years and finally achieved a goal that was impossible for me. Focus, drive and perseverance can lead to much beauty and inspire others not to give up, despite setbacks. I have made a documentary and written a book ("That One Moment," T. ten Klooster, 2024).
The Presentation consists of an Introduction, explanation with slides and then the documentary (1,5 to 2 hours incl. possible break)
Tim ten Klooster, 63 years old, living in Zwolle. As a child fascinated by mountains. After my divorce I started climbing the highest mountains in the Alps, sometimes together with my wife.
In 9 years more than 25x 4000m+ mountains climbed, as amateur of course with guides.
From 2017 higher mountains in Russia, Kyrgistan and Nepal, until the failed ascent of the Manaslu in Nepal in 2022. Made another attempt in 2023 anyway, again without sponsorship and thus saving a lot. I made it to the top! Full of hallucinations and exhaustion, this led to 2 days of hospitalization in Kathmandu.
Perseverance, drive and support from the 'home front' after 15 years led to this for me unlikely summit
climb. I wrote a book about it; 'That one Moment', available via Boekenbestellen.nl (no publisher, printing on demand) and had a documentary made.
