Musical lecture with live guitar playing and listening examples
In the interactive master class 'Classical in Pop' Aldo Druyf shows how classical masterpieces live on in famous pop songs. Aldo talks enthusiastically and clearly about the stories behind this music. In addition, he plays fragments on guitar in which he connects classical themes and pop melodies. This makes it immediately audible how close together these worlds actually are. This creates not only a fascinating performance, but also an intimate mini-concert.
You have classical and you have pop. Separate worlds? Nothing is what it seems.
Many people do know that Ekseption's 'The 5th' is based on Beethoven's 'Fifth,' or that Procol Harum's 'A Whiter Shade of Pale' goes back to Bach's 'Air.' But less known is that Sting's 'Russians' features Prokofiev's 'Romance,' and that Tiësto made a world hit out of Barber's 'Adagio' (the saddest melody ever).
Aldo Druyf has achieved fame as a classical guitarist and author of books on classical music.
His book 'Classical in Pop' - the first book on the influence of classical music on pop music - was published in 2025, and now there is the live master class based on it!
