Yesim Candan is a woman who builds bridges between worlds. Born in Rotterdam, raised with Turkish roots and shaped by the top of the Dutch business world, she knows better than anyone what it feels like to move between different cultures. Her life story is one of daring, perseverance and constantly reinventing language and perspective. From the term bicultural to the red heels on Dam Square: each time, Candan looks for ways to make visible what often remains invisible.
From her student days at Nyenrode Business University to her first book Holland Wake Up! and the national contest Inspiration for Integration. She tells how she developed into a writer, columnist and researcher, and how her mission to make diversity and emancipation negotiable gave her work ever new direction.
As of now, Yesim Candan can be booked through Showbird starting at €1,500,
Yesim charges a special rate for schools and foundations.
With personal stories, probing columns and social actions, Candan shows how she put themes such as integration, intimate terror and femicide on the map. Her story is confrontational and hopeful: it shows how language and symbols can open new doors, and how one voice can make a difference in the public
debate.
