Keynote: Mental Well-Being for International Professionals — Thriving Between Two Worlds
Living between two worlds takes a toll: loneliness, questions about your identity, and the pressure to “stay strong” for family who are far away. In this keynote, Irene Anggreeni—herself a member of the Indonesian diaspora in the Netherlands—shares relatable stories and practical tools for mental resilience that help internationals, expats, and newcomers approach life with greater resilience and a lighter heart.

What will be covered in this lecture? Irene addresses the mental challenges that many expats recognize but rarely speak about openly: cultural differences, homesickness, the stigma surrounding mental health, and family expectations and financial pressures. She reveals the “saboteur” patterns behind this pressure (such as the Critic, the Hyper-Achiever, and the Pleaser) and how they manifest in daily life. Participants do a short exercise on the spot that they can immediately apply in moments of stress. The tone is warm, relatable, and inclusive—relevant for women and inviting for men as allies. Attendees leave feeling heard, less alone, and more open to seeking support.

About Irene: Irene Anggreeni is a TEDx speaker and mental fitness coach, and a partner at the Rotterdam International Center. She has delivered this keynote at events such as the welcome event for the Indonesian House in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Born in Indonesia and at home in Rotterdam, she knows firsthand what it’s like to live between two worlds and translates that experience into practical tools for anyone building a new home far from home.
