The presentations are interactive and richly illustrated with numerous photos, original sound clips and lots of music videos. During the presentation we will also perform live some authentic blues songs
With the musical performance "Into the Soul of the Blues," Bart 'Nassara' Massaer likes to take you on a journey through the life story of the Blues. And we not only travel across ocean and land, we also travel in time, as the blues story begins in Africa in the seventeenth century.
In the first part, "Into the Soul of the Blues," Nassara recounts the origins of the Blues in Africa, the period of slavery and the singing of the "field hollers" on the plantations in the southern United States. He describes the lives of the musicians who roamed the Mississippi River delta and recounts the golden 1920s with the rise of the "classic female blues" and the revival of
the "Country Blues" in the late 1920s.
In a second section "The Blues had a baby named 'Rock 'n Roll,'" Nassara describes the music during the economic recession of the 1930s, the postwar blues and the emergence of Rock 'n Roll in the 1950s.
And in a third show "Sixties Blues Revival," Nassara recounts the revival of the blues during the folk revival of the 1960s, after which British youth embraced the blues with new energy in modern rock music.
In the musical performance, Nassara always refers to African roots and the African-American influence on contemporary rock music. The presentations are interactive and richly illustrated with numerous photographs, original sound clips and lots of music videos.
Live music
During the performance, Bart 'Nassara' Massaer will perform some authentic songs from Delta blues and early Rock 'n Roll. The live music is supported by percussionist Bernd 'the Medicine Man' Haerynck.
