Marleen Bekker cycled 2000 kilometers by herself. More do that, but she did it at a snail's pace. In her interactive and humorous inspiration session, she talks about her adventures on the bike. Because he who slows down can do great things.
Marleen is currently writing a book about the Snail Philosophy, was featured in Flow Magazine with an article and was interviewed in several podcasts.
Cycling alone two thousand kilometers in two months, more do it. But Marleen Bekker did it at a snail's pace. This gave her time and space to fully experience every encounter, every mountain and blade of grass. She discovered how to overcome her fears and do great things as a result.
In her inspiration session, she wants to encourage you to be brave enough to dare to slow down at work once in a while so that you experience more peace, connection and joy. With yourself, your colleagues and clients.
And no, you don't have to cycle a long way to do that, she has already done that for you.
What is the Snail Philosophy?
The Snail Philosophy is a way of living
and working that she discovered while cycling two thousand kilometers by herself through Spain. By deliberately going slower, she learned some interesting things that she shares in her inspiration session for organizations organizing a meeting, event or conference.
- By slowing down once in a while, you don't do less, but more
- Slowing down gives rest, overview and satisfaction
- Resting makes genuine contact possible, with yourself and with others
- Even if you go slowly, or perhaps especially if you go slowly, you can achieve great things
- Being a snail is not for wimps. You will have to look your 'monsters' in the mouth, because there are bound to be voices in your head that think that 'sluggishness' is just stupid.
What's in it for the audience?
In the inspiration session Snail Philosophy, she uses her cycling stories to translate personal insights to the questions and challenges of working life. Because nice to hear that she has experienced the value of slowing down, but even nicer if the visitors of your event can apply them to their busy lives. She wants to encourage the audience to be brave enough to honor their own pace, so that they experience more peace, joy and connection with others and therefore take better care of themselves and thus do better work.
What are the topics?
She always tailors the exact cycling stories, exercises and topics to the occasion, the purpose of the meeting and its attendees. In any case, it's about:
- daring to dwell on how you feel so that you give yourself what you need
- building in moments of rest, or 'snail moments', so that you get an overview and work smarter
- recognize "monsters" and learn to listen to your inner snail, which tells you that you can slow down a bit
- besides the performance goals at work, learn to choose goals to make the way there more gentle
Your audience will go home with:
- Courage to regularly reflect on themselves, so they don't rush back to their to-do list that has long since become outdated
- Concrete tips for building in snail's pace into the day, so that they don't fill up with everything that comes into their heads and so that they roll into the evening more relaxed
- More peace in the head, so they can choose again what is really important for them, instead of being rushed by things that may be urgent, but are certainly not important
- A lighter feeling, because they were able to laugh at me and at the craziness of their own rushing around
- And of course that crazy sticker that reminds them that they can calm down a bit
Who is Marleen Bekker?
Marleen is a writer and speaker on the Snail Philosophy. To her own surprise, she is writing a book about my bike ride and slowing down. When it comes out? When it's ready, she writes nice and slow, of course.
As a comedian, she has made a number of performances, including two full-length ones: Motherly Marleen and The Pilgrim Show. Even though Inspiration Session is not a cabaret show, there is certainly humor in it. Marleen couldn't be more different.
She always tailors her inspiration sessions to the goal and target audience of your event. She learned that as a senior training actor at Boertien Vergouwen Overduin. Marleen is not a speaker who does her thing without the audience feeling it's about them. She really connects with your guests.
If you still want to know what she studied at the University of Groningen and at which college of arts she studied Drama: you can find my entire resume on LinkedIn.
