She started her musical career as a backing vocalist for artists such as Chaka Khan, Michael Bolton, Alain Clark, Candy Dulfer, Henny Vrienten and Anouk. When Anouk represents the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013, Shirma Rouse is named best backing vocalist of the song contest by The Eurovision Times. She has since released 3 albums, the third of which, Shout It Out Loud, was awarded the Edison Jazzism Publieksprijs in 2015.

Shirma Rouse is marking the 75th birth anniversary of The Aretha Franklin in 2017 in her own unique way. The Queen of Soul Celebration Tour, a concert series at home and abroad and a reprise of the theater show "Shirma sings Aretha," written by Shirma Rouse herself.

March 2017 will also see the release of her long-awaited 4th studio album "Soul Serenade," a heartwarming ode to love featuring newly written songs, a duet with American soul sensation Ryan Shaw and adaptations of classics such as Imagine and Let it Be.
