Versatile cellist, specializing in Argentine Tango, cello and live electronics, classical, experimental, musical theater and rock.
Jan Willem is a versatile cellist: he plays classical music, works with composers and choreographers and is specialized in Argentine tango. Since 2009 he plays in Ensemble Modelo62, an ensemble for experimental classical music. This season he can be seen in the music theatre performance Beethoven Lost in Silence by Esther Apituley and last summer he was one of the three musicians in the location performance Mammoet by Tom de Ket.
With Nine Volt Duo he made the music for the film 'Reclaiming Vision' by Dijkman and Johannessen and for the performance 'Entwine' by Lukas Timulak and the Prague Chamber Ballet. As a soloist he plays classical and world music as well as his own compositions and soundscapes.
From 2012-2018 Troost
was part of the Carel Kraayenhof Ensemble and Sexteto Canyengue. Together with 3 fellow cellists he accompanied Anouk in the Ziggo Dome. With pianist Roeland Drost he formed the duo Troost and Drost that toured to Indonesia and Japan. He worked with directors Saskia Mees, Arlon Luiten, Romain Bischoff, Jos Groenier and with choreographers Samir Calixto, Lonneke van Leth, Pim Veulings, Eyas Al Mokdad, and Marco Gerris of ISH.
