Martijn van den Assem is a professor of Finance at the Free University. His main focus is on the choices and judgments we make as humans. His knowledge and expertise is therefore actually at the interface of (behavioral) economics, finance and psychology.
During his lecture, he shows which predictable mistakes financial managers make, based on psychological insights and scientific research among CEOs and CFOs. His lecture combines scientific depth, examples, entertainment and interaction.
For his own research, he uses television game shows, such as the popular Dutch Miljoenenjacht, among others. Three articles from that line of research he co-wrote with American Nobel Prize winner Richard Thaler (Economics, 2017).
He has won several teaching awards, and is an accomplished speaker.
