My name is Michael van Praag. I am a certified wedding officiant (BABS) in the municipalities of Bergen, Uitgeest, Castricum, and Heiloo, which means I can also serve as a BABS for one day virtually anywhere in the Netherlands. This is because some municipalities only accept a one-day BABS if they have been appointed and sworn in by another municipality—and that is exactly my case.
Your wedding day is without a doubt one of the most beautiful days of your lives, and saying “I do” to each other is the most beautiful moment. So your wedding officiant’s speech should also be special—and I can definitely make sure of that!

As chairman of Ajax and the KNVB, I’ve learned how to truly empathize with people, which allows me to create a beautiful ceremony tailored entirely to you.
I can conduct the ceremony in Dutch, English, French, or German, whichever you prefer.

Now, I could certainly write all sorts of flowery words about this on this website, but that’s no guarantee that you’ll feel comfortable with me as your wedding officiant. And if you want to entrust me with this responsibility, I believe that’s a prerequisite.
That’s why I think it’s much better—and more pleasant for you—to first meet for a cup of coffee or tea, get to know each other, and discuss things back and forth. There’s absolutely no obligation on your part, but it will give you a much better sense of who I am and what I could do for you.
And, if you then decide to entrust me with that task, I’ll get to work for you right away, because I consider it an honor to marry you, whether in a ceremonial or legal ceremony.
