Human decision-making is fascinating. We may perceive our judgments and choices as logical and thoughtful, but without realizing it ourselves, we often go wrong in predictable ways.

His own research uses television game shows, such as the popular Dutch Miljoenenjacht, among others. Three articles from that line of research he co-wrote with American Nobel Prize winner Richard Thaler (Economics, 2017).
His lectures combine scientific depth, examples, entertainment and interaction.
He has won several teaching awards, and is an experienced speaker.

Reviews
, Ted Bressers, mede organisator NVR
For the NVR two-day course, Martijn taught the course/introduction "Judgment and Choice Behavior" to a group of about 20 stewards for one half day (March 2025). This was an interesting and interactive introduction with particular findings underlying choices made in daily practice.

Martijn recently gave a fascinating presentation for the Dutch Center of Directors and Commissioners, in which he discussed analyses of human choice behavior tangentially related to economics and psychology. It was fascinating to see how entrepreneurs, for example, confidently approach their yet-to-be-started companies, as well as other intriguing examples of how people arrive at (sometimes trivial) decisions. Martijn used data from game shows to support his points. With this, he was able to captivate his audience of CEOs, CFOs and non-executives and spark a lively discussion.

We were very satisfied. Martin's presentations were well received by both our clients (banking sector) and my colleagues, partly due to the combination of deep expertise, an approachable speaking style and the interactive format.

Martijn's strength is to translate well-known academic concepts into everyday examples. Sometimes confronting, but always instructive for every investor.
