In 2000, Annemieke Raatsie's life went completely upside down. She was diagnosed with cancer aggressive, rare and, according to the doctors, she had two years to live. But those who know Annemieke know that predictions do not apply to her.
With grueling surgeries, medical experiments, hope fluctuating and care changing at times, Annemieke discovered a unique way to cope with her illness, which she has now carried with her for more than 25 years. She still has cancer, and it has metastasized but she lives - full, intense and in her own way.
That is what makes her story raw, honest and surprisingly light.
In addition to her personal journey, Annemieke also takes the audience behind the scenes of the television world, where she has worked for years as a recording supervisor on major TV programs. Expect funny, recognizable and sometimes moving anecdotes from that world, stories about what really happens on and behind the set, with celebrities, crews and unexpected
situations that sometimes say more about life than you think.
She knows better than anyone how to make a story really come in. Touching, comforting and with humor where you don't expect it. Now she finds it time to share her emotions, insights and life lessons and give the audience a good dose of positivity!
"Happy with Cancer" is not a classic lecture, but her own story. It's about hope, fear, loss, joy and everything in between. About the moments when things are going well, and the moments when things are just downright k*t. With lots of interaction, sharp observations and a healthy dose of self-mockery, Annemieke takes the audience into an experience that touches and connects.
Don't focus on what you don't have, but on everything you do have.

We go back many years, Annemieke and I. Still to the time when I christened her Pipi (after Longstocking) because she was jumping on her bed 24 hours after major surgery. From her "patron," renowned oncologist Bob Pinedo, she was asked to serve as an "illustration" at a lecture. On that occasion, she had to address the audience, and she did so with a flair and expertise that baffled even me. While the images were quite gruesome. Never afterward has Annemieke been too reluctant to share her story with people. Now that she has had cancer for almost 25 years, the time is ripe to become a bit more broadly active about it. A meeting like a warm embrace. Bert van der Veer, journalist and TV-maker

By now I have also known Annemieke for over a quarter of a century. I have had the great privilege of sitting across from Annemieke for many hours as a one-man audience while she talked about her life. After all, I am writing her biography (scheduled for 2027) and believe me, her stories are what you want to hear. Of course, the fact that she has had cancer for 25 years forms a large part of it, but she has so much more to tell. Her life is a rare blend of humor and horror, of poignancy and dismay, of joy and sadness. Annemieke represents flair, resilience and perseverance, she is super-social, welcoming and empathetic, but she can also be a fury. A unique personality and a great storyteller, warm ánd recommended!

Annemiek filled in for the chairman of a major political party last minute, making the stage entirely hers. Her presentation was warm, narrative and deeply moving. With her spontaneous arrival, Annemiek made the charity dinner a great success.
