Comforting handpan music at farewell, warm, pure and balanced

A funeral is a moment of silence, remembrance and love. Music can replace words and that is exactly what the handpan does. In the hands of Deniz Kavafoglu, this unique instrument becomes a soft voice that offers comfort and carries the atmosphere naturally.

With over 12 years of experience playing and performing with the handpan, including many funerals and memorials, Deniz knows how to make his sounds flow with the moment. His music is not meant to draw attention, but to bring a sense of calm and presence. The tones fill the room with warmth, but remain subtle, just at the right level.

During a funeral, Deniz carefully tunes his playing to the course of the ceremony. He arrives about half an hour before the start to set up his instrument and coordinate with the orgaization. The handpan is on a stand and can be placed in various places, inside or outside, for example also when a honor guard is being made.

The music can sound at the reception, between speakers or while walking away. Everything is played intuitively, completely by feel and attuned to the atmosphere of the moment - no rehearsed songs or request songs, but pure improvisation in service of the farewell.

Deniz usually plays solo, but can also perform in duets with violin or trumpet, giving the music an extra dimension. Always with the same modesty and respectful tone that suits a funeral or cremation.

Deniz's handpan music is not a performance, but an accompaniment.

Practical information

Experience: 12 years professional handpans player, extensive experience at funerals

Rate: €750 for 3 hours presence, with playing time spread over 30-60 minutes

Excluding travel expenses

No requests - the music is created by feeling in the moment

Amplification: possible, but usually not necessary

Available: indoors and outdoors, all over the Netherlands

Optional: handpan duo or collaboration with violin or trumpet

Introduction: a personal conversation in advance is always possible
