Managers can learn a lot from conductors. After all, how is it that a conductor gets so much done by his orchestra members, while seemingly doing so little? How does a conductor ensure that his vision comes across crystal clear? How does he communicate with the various orchestra members? And how does he encourage them to work together as one team?
The modern manager is expected to get the best out of his/her team by getting people to work together. He must have an eye for what employees need to shine and deploys his own behavior and leadership style to create the optimal conditions for this. Managers must be able to convey the organizational and personal vision to the team by employing enthusiasm, leadership, natural superiority, guts, humor and authenticity. Inspire from trust, inspiration and creativity!
Actually, a conductor does no different. A conductor constantly encourages others to come up with their own solutions. Moreover, he makes his orchestra members feel that they own the whole piece and not just the small part they play. A conductor leads by listening! When
you approach people with an openness, they show more of their talent. This is directly reflected in the level of an orchestra but also in the results of the team and the organization.
The seven-time Dutch-champion orchestra Brass Band Schoonhoven shows managers in the Listen! workshop how it works, and above all how it can be heard. By putting managers in and in front of the orchestra and thus letting them experience what really connects orchestra members and their conductor (and thus in fact employees and their manager). And how they can excel together in leadership skills, communication and teamwork.
In this way you can experience how an orchestra at the top international level prepares concerts and competitions and achieves successes that at first seemed unattainable. With everything you see and hear, the workshop leader draws the parallel to the working practice in organizations. At the end of the workshop you will go home with new, valuable insights that you can immediately apply in your own organization. Here the orchestra, against the background of the specific work philosophy of the organization, is used as an appealing metaphor.
Is your company ready for a change, are you the manager who needs to initiate such a process, or are you a manager who wants to get more out of himself and his team? Listen! is a particularly innovative workshop to give that process a good start. Specific wishes for the content of the workshop can be accommodated by mutual agreement.
