Opportunity equality in education can only be achieved with perseverance and guts. Guts to think outside the box and guts to dare to make a difference. Hands on and with a lot of humor she takes you through the theoretical backgrounds but especially through the unruly practice of Equal Opportunities, because we only get them through unequal treatment!
Sofie takes you into this complex world, not just by naming problems, but rather by sharing solutions. Film excerpts from the wonderful documentary "Utopia of Sofie" by Paul Rigter ( viewable on NPO start) she uses to tell her story.
She supports her lecture with practical examples, giving food for thought. The audience can also participate interactively through propositions, case discussion and panel discussions. For example, do you or do you not take the home situation of students into account when making school recommendations?

As project leader Sofie van de Waart set up Explora Breda, a project in which students from Breda North and Breda South with totally different backgrounds met in a
class for the gifted. She is happy to share the lessons she has learned in the field of equal opportunities and cultural diversity, using her knowledge and experience from the Equal Opportunities Alliance of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.
As part of the Expert Team, she has visited and interviewed schools throughout the country that are working on this theme and also spoken at several grammar schools on the topic of diversity at the grammar school.

Sofie gave a lecture for the CNV leadership lab on the do's and dont's of a school leader. She knows better than anyone else what a teacher wants from a school leader because of her years of practical experience. In addition, she is theoretically well versed. Moreover, she knows how to constantly captivate the audience and keep their attention with her sparkling way of presenting. Her sense of humor certainly helps with that!
