On December 27, 1971 Alex was born in Leiden and grew up in Katwijk. Recently Alex was appointed Ambassador of the municipality of Noordwijk his current residence. During his youth he went to work in café Bolle Jan in Amsterdam. Known as the pub of René Froger's father. Here he was discovered as a singer. At his performances the whole tent was upside down. Shortly afterwards he scored his first mega hit Een Bossie Rooie Rozen, which accelerated his singing career.

Een Bossie Rooie Rozen entered the Top 40 at number 15 and spent three weeks at number 1 in the Dutch charts, and was the most frequently played song in pubs and halls. The success of the single led to appearances in various television programs including Tros Muziekfeesten, RTL Lijn 4, SBS6 Shownieuws, RTL Boulevard, De Aftrap, Darts in Utrecht, Postcodeloterij, Staatsloterijshow on Tour, Big Brother, De Bus and Businessclass. A Bossie Rooie Rozen has given the sympathetic singer a lot of name recognition.
