After a deep fall as an alderman, in the middle of a much-discussed and ultimately unfounded corruption case, De Mos found himself in tough political weather. A turbulent period in which he was publicly under fire and lost his position. Where many would drop out, he kept fighting.

He described this period candidly in his book Mijn Verhaal (My Story), in which he shows what it means to remain under extreme pressure, to lose trust and to win it back.

With an unprecedented comeback and a rock-solid campaign, he then led Hart voor Den Haag to a historic election victory of 16 seats - by far the largest party in the city and far ahead of the competition.

He was seen as a top favorite in the media beforehand and praised afterwards for his strong campaign and clear victory. His approach - visible in neighborhoods, in direct contact with residents and strategically sharp - was widely recognized as effective and distinctive.
