When the Moustache Bigband plays at your party, you don't book a band for just background music. The 18 musicians come to put on an unprecedented show, to get everyone on the dance floor and have a musical party together the rest of the evening!

After years of touring around in our student days, from Saint-Tropez and Monaco to the Montreux Jazz Festival and Houston (USA), we know exactly what the recipe is for a catchy and compelling musical show

Really everything about this band is therefore custom-made: not only the stylish plates, the "moustache" bow-ties and the colorful suits of our "chef d'orchestre" Matthijs, but also the unique repertoire, each one chosen or written for all soloists and cast-iron singers in the band. From manuscripts of Ellington and Basie's Old Testament the pearls of thirties jazz like "Harlem Airshaft", "Concerto for Cootie" and "Fast and Happy Blues" sound. This is interspersed with vocal classics like Joe Williams' "Ev'ryday I got the Blues", "Luck be a Lady" by Sinatra and the beautifully sung "Georgia on my mind"

The Latin influences are at least as authentic, with its own Portorican adaptation of Ellington's "Caravan", a surprising "Harlem Nocturne" in Cha-Cha and a sultry Spanish-speaking Rumba reminiscent of 1950s Cuba

The evening continues swinging with "Tu vuo' fa' l'Americano" sung by our Italian trumpeter, "Formidable" by Aznavour and concluded with a spectacular drum solo on Basie's favourite "Whirly Bird"!

Every year, the Moustache Bigband makes a short tour to provide a musical surprise in special public places, such as Liège and the Maastricht Vrijthof and Onze Lieve Vrouweplein in 2018.
