With a career spanning several decades, Jacques Herb has left a lasting impression in the Dutch music world, with timeless hits and a loyal fan base.

Jacques Herb’s very first Top 40 hit was “De Toreador” in 1970; this song, written by Herb himself, went platinum in 2020 after being re-released in 2019 by another singer
Jacques Herb truly broke through in 1971 with his iconic single “Manuela,” a song that became an instant hit and brought him nationwide fame. The hit remained high on the Dutch charts for weeks and is still considered a classic in the “levenslied” genre. “Manuela” became the defining song of his career and established Jacques Herb as a fixture in Dutch music.
This was followed in 1972 by “Een man mag niet huilen,” which also secured a spot in the Top 40.
Today, the three songs mentioned above are still essential parts of his performances.

The singer Jacques Herb was born on May 28, 1946. He was the youngest of 13 children. At barely 15 years old, he signed on with a “wild shipping” company and was already showcasing his talent as a singer in various seaports. He accompanied himself on the guitar. He was discovered in 1970 during a talent contest in Scheveningen by Pierre Kartner. His first single, “De Toreador,” immediately entered the charts of the so-called “pirate radio stations” of the time.
