With tremendous passion, enthusiasm, and humor, sea eagle expert Ruben Meijer gives lectures, presentations, and educational sessions about the European sea eagle at schools, organizations, nursing homes, and community centers throughout the Netherlands. The white-tailed eagle, Europe’s largest bird of prey—which has been breeding in the Netherlands again since 2006—is one of the most spectacular sights in the Netherlands’ flora and fauna! The ruler of the skies is the crowning achievement of our nature conservation efforts and demonstrates that this imposing and impressive bird of prey clearly feels at home in our little country. At the time of writing, there are approximately 50 nesting sites in the Netherlands, and the bird is present in every province!
About
the lecture/presentation: During the lecture and presentation, Ruben Meijer takes the audience on a journey through the flight of the white-tailed eagle. We’ll view nature through the eyes of this apex predator. What is this giant bird of prey doing in our little country? The audience will learn about the white-tailed eagle’s biotope and habitat, as well as its behavior and the impressive hunting techniques of “the flying door.” What are the threats to the white-tailed eagle in the Netherlands, and what opportunities lie ahead for it? How is it that the white-tailed eagle population is growing healthily in our increasingly crowded country? Where do these “new white-tailed eagles” come from, and why had they disappeared? My mission is to encourage people even more to get out into nature, be active, and enjoy our beautiful and unique natural world—so that, who knows, one day they might encounter the “flying door.”
“Face to Face with the Bald Eagle!” The lecture and presentation isn’t just a story with photos and videos—because how impressive would it be to come face to face with a real bald eagle?! A rare wild specimen (stuffed) will actually be on display for the audience during the presentation and lecture!
