Singer-songwriter Mattanja brengt poëzie, storytelling en krachtige maatschappelijke thema's samen in haar akoestische, Nederlandstalige muziek.

Mattanja is a singer-songwriter, writer, and wordsmith. In her acoustic music, she explores the dialogue between major social issues and small moments of happiness. A gentle activist, she uses beautiful words to highlight society’s sore spots. With roots in spoken word, she sees it as her goal to bring more poetry into music. Spoken word and music therefore regularly converge in her work. She advocates for issues such as climate change and women’s empowerment: “Urgency” is her watchword. Mattanja aims to create music that dives beneath the surface, gets under your skin, and lingers in your mind long after it’s over.

Mattanja performs regularly in theaters and at a wide variety of venues and events. She has performed at locations including: Oude Luxor Theater in Rotterdam (2024), Klein Bellevue in Amsterdam (2025), Theater Zuidplein in Rotterdam (2025), Cinetol in Amsterdam (2025), De Roode Bioscoop in Amsterdam (2026), Theater de Veste in Delft (2026), and Theater Cpunt in Hoofddorp (2026). In the spring of 2025, as one of the winners of the Spoken Awards, she toured various Dutch theaters with a spoken-word performance. In 2026, she participated in Mooie Noten Amsterdam. That same spring, her debut single was released: “Dit is mijn stad” (“This Is My City”), a song that denounces street harassment.
