The power of collection -
Creative workshop
by Timo Sorber
For over 28 years I have worked as a photographer, artist and creator of extraordinary stories and projects.
From that background I give creative workshops and inspiration sessions for organizations, in which imagination, observation and storytelling are central.
Central to my work is the question: how do you revisit what you already know? How does an idea emerge? And how can you use simple observations to create new stories and insights?
In addition to my work as a photographer and artist, I developed several books and projects, including Famous Coffee, Rockingnames, The Giants of the City and Great Antlers. In all these projects, collecting, looking and making meaning play an important role.
Workshop: The Power of
Collecting
In this creative team workshop, participants discover how powerful working with images and observation can be.
Instead of searching for the perfect photo, participants create small collections of images with their smartphones. Together, these images form a story, a theme or a new perspective on the environment.
Through watching, collecting and associating, unexpected insights, stories and ideas emerge.
The workshop shows how creativity is not something abstract but arises by looking differently at the everyday.
Participants actively engage with an assignment or theme and then build their own visual collection.
The workshop is playful, approachable and suitable for everyone regardless of experience. The goal is to stimulate creativity, collaboration and fresh thinking within teams.
It begins with a plenary explanation in which I talk about where my passion for collecting and storytelling comes from. Then the participants go out, on a hunt or even an adventure to create their first collection and are encouraged to create a short story to go with it. In the final session, the collections are presented and participants tell their ideas, choices and sometimes already complete stories.
This creative workshop is suitable for everyone, regardless of experience. The goal is to stimulate creativity, discover new perspectives and have fun in the process of collecting and creating.

About Timo Sorber:
Timo Sorber loves to create, both with the camera and with his hands.
For over thirty years he has worked as a portrait and reportage photographer. In addition to his commissioned work, he is constantly looking for new subjects that inspire him.
He has published three books:
Famous Koffie, with portraits of Dutch celebrities and their favorite coffee moment,
Rockingnames, about children with unusual names,
and recently The Giants of the City, in which ten city trees come to life as giants hiding among us.
Over ten years ago, in addition, he began the project Great Antlers. What started as a photographic idea grew into a craft art project in which he uses found branches to make antlers, each with its own name and story.
