An upbeat musical show featuring the funniest and most beautiful songs from the vast repertoire of Willy Derby, Holland's most beloved and popular singer of the Interwar period.
Coba and her Cobets put well-known and unknown hits of this famous Dutch singer in a fresh jacket and in between songs Coba tells funny and touching anecdotes from Derby's special artistic life.
Interestingly, many of Derby's lyrics are timeless and surprisingly topical again today.

Who is Coba?
During her shows, singer-comedienne Jeannette Scheffer steps into the shoes of blonde Coba, a former innkeeper from downtown The Hague. With her warm alto, big heart and infectious frankness, she sings about life in all its facets.
She is accompanied by the Cobets, three fantastic musicians who have won their spurs in music and have just as much fun as Coba.
A cozy atmosphere and interaction with her audience characterize the performances of Coba & Cobets besides the strong music and good lyrics. Afterwards everyone goes home happy!

Who was Willy Derby?
The eightieth anniversary of the death of Willy Derby (1886-1944) was seized upon by Coba to put together a merry song program.
The singer Willy Derby, who grew from a poor street boy into an artist who sold millions of records, was especially successful during the crisis and war years. His songs were a fine distraction and comfort to many during those uncertain times of unemployment and poverty. People recognized the pain and suffering but also enjoyed the songs about inventions and fashions of the new generation and could just dream away when he sang about distant lands.
Derby was the very first artist in Holland to sing the famous "Dreamland," a song of American origin for which he had a translation made and he became an inspiration for great Dutch artists such as Dorus, Willy Alberti, the Zangeres zonder Naam and Andre Hazes sr.
Well-known songs by Derby included "Hallo Bandoeng," "Twee ogen zo Blauw," "Zwarte Zigeuner" and "Het Fiere Schooiershart.
Derby began his singing career as a singing sailor and he was the brother of the equally famous singer Lou Bandy.
During '40-'45, Derby was imprisoned twice for anti-German jokes made during his performance.
Despite the fact that he was the absolute king of the life song, Derby is almost forgotten.
Coba is happy to change that!
