In the lecture "Tegen de Stroom In" Richard de Mos and Mr. Peter Plasman share their unique and personal story about resilience, legal certainty and perseverance when nobody believes in you anymore.

De Mos, for years an alderman and first deputy mayor of The Hague, became the center of a notorious corruption case in 2019. His party had won elections in 2018, but just over a year later a raid, accusations and political exclusion followed. At his side was criminal lawyer Peter Plasman - known for numerous high-profile cases and a fixture in the Dutch legal profession for decades.

In this lecture, both will discuss the impact of such a trial. Not only legally, but also personally and socially. What does it do to you when your name is dragged through the mud on a daily basis? How do you stay the course when media and political opponents have already condemned you? And how do you keep believing in your own story when the system no longer seems to do so?
