MICHAEL VAREKAMP TRUMPET, VOCALS & NARRATOR
Michael Varekamp is 10 years old when he finds a Louis Armstrong LP in his father's record cabinet. A decade later, he graduated cum laude from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. He has since performed all over the world and toured with the likes of Dutch Swing College Band, Scott Hamilton and Louis van Dijk. He has been honored abroad. For example, he received the Kobe Award in Japan and was the only European to work with Jazzmobile Inc. in New York. He has performed at prominent venues around the world such as Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Royal Concertgebouw. Michael recently performed with Branford Marsalis.

Michael works with ensembles ranging from 3-5 people. He IS the personification of Jazz music. Performances range from animated concerts to fancy appropriate musical settings. Michael is at home throughout jazz history with a preference for music from the Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis periods. At the forefront of his mission is to propagate the accessibility of jazz. At Varekamp, jazz is inclusive, instead of exclusive like many.
