Barney Willemse (27) is a guitarist and singer-songwriter from North Holland, for whom
country music runs deep in his DNA. Raised in a musical family with a mother
who was a singer and a father who played guitar, he was literally raised on music
from the very start.

As a baby, Barney lay in his crib with a guitar, but at the age of six, he
truly got to know the guitar for the first time at a country festival—an encounter that
immediately felt like love at first sight. What began as a fascination with the
instrument grew, years later, into a strong urge to tell his own stories. He
developed a passion for songwriting, began singing, and devoted himself to
writing his own material, in which country influences are clearly audible.

Especially over the past four years, Barney has steadily built his reputation with no fewer than
some 400 performances. He released his own music and managed to connect with a wide audience through
his honest, authentic songs and relatable sound, which is inspired by artists
such as Bruce Springsteen, Brad Paisley, the Eagles, Danny Vera, and many others.

Last year, he performed his latest songs, “Big City Nights” and “Midnight Stars,” live on
national radio with Giel Beelen. His craftsmanship and dedication also did not go
unnoticed: he was recently named “Guitarist of the Year” in West Friesland.

With his roots firmly anchored in country music and a fresh, personal approach
to songwriting, Barney Willemse is an artist who continues to grow both on stage and
beyond.
