The protection of Twilight Lake lies with three supernatural, yet human-looking creatures, who together as the 'Night Watch' can banish other creatures to the underworld. Each of them has a unique special gift.

Vladimir is the vampire of the party. In the series, he does not drink blood, but tomato juice. He is fond of riddles and mysteries. Despite his young appearance, he is no less than 200 years old. He is an intelligent strategist and a real control freak. He can run very fast and make himself invisible. As befits a true vampire, he cannot stand garlic and has no mirror image.

Wilko, a nineteen-year-old werewolf, is very strong, fast and agile. He is stubborn and sometimes has trouble controlling himself. He does not tolerate touching silver. He also likes Sacha, the rather mouthy live-in teenage relative of the innkeeper with whom the trio lives and regularly helps out.

Keelin, the only girl of the three, is an elf. She is engaged in making magical potions. She also often functions as a lightning rod when her friends still like to fight with each other. Keelin is a master at sensing magic, people and emotions. Her strength comes from the pixie dust she extracts from her hair.
