As a seven-piece band with singer, Royal Buckets Jazz plays traditional jazz from the American Songbook. More and less well-known pieces from major American films and musicals, many of which reached jazz standard status. But, how does a jazz orchestra work on those pieces to arrive at a rendition of them? What distinctions can you make between jazz formations and jazz styles? Your guests will gather around the band and they will be lectured on the composition and working methods of the band and how we work with compositions. Enrich your knowledge of traditional jazz as a listener and or dancer. What styles are there in early jazz up to about 1950? We work with listening examples, Then your guests will dance, have drinks or dinner with live jazz.
How a band operates is a closed book for many people. We lay that open for you. It's about working together, making choices, knowing each other's roles, strengths and weaknesses. We tell you about the different instruments, their roles, the construction of musical pieces, what can you focus on as a dancer or listener. Where does jazz come from, how did it develop until about the 1950s. We will let you hear examples and talk about the stylistic characteristics. In this way the music becomes more meaningful to you and you have matter to test your preferences and interest against. Then we play one or two sets where there can be dancing or drinks or dinner.
