René Schuurmans was born on the Maaskantje in 1964, as one of eight children in a musical family. His father owned café discotheque De Molen in Den Dungen, which stimulated his love of music. Although he initially wanted to become a veterinarian, he started drumming and singing at parties at a young age.

In 2004, René decided to go solo after five years of performing with his sister Astrid as the duo René & Astrid. After his career as a traffic official with the municipality of Sint-Michielsgestel, which lasted 12.5 years, he devoted himself entirely to music. He scored hits such as "Als ik haar zien," "Diep in mijn hart," and "Hela Ho," and his breakthrough came in 2007 with "Laat de zon in je hart."

René performed at the Amsterdam ArenA and at major events such as the TROS Muziekfeesten and Mega Festijnen. In 2014, he wrote the single "Bij ons in Brabant" for Omroep Brabant. In 2019, he lent his voice to the radio and TV commercial for Lidl with "Let the sun into your heart." Schuurmans remains a beloved artist in Dutch-language music.
