How does the practice of both general practitioner and specialist change? How are healthcare institutions changing? Health insurances? Do we still need these large hospitals? What place will medicine have in the care sector in the future and what will happen in pharma? That's what this inspiring Bakas lecture is all about.
The technologicalisation of healthcare will continue in the coming period. Artificial Intelligence plays a role in this, and the use of healthcare apps will become commonplace in the coming years. Chips, implanted in the body, can lower high blood pressure or make sleep apnea manageable. Different types of insurance will arrive, to suit different lifestyles.
Living and dying in dignity becomes the norm. Digitization ensures that patients are better informed and more demanding. The doctor's authority must be continuously proven and transparency is the norm. Since care for people is an important issue, they will also force a revolution in the healthcare sector, so warn healthcare innovators. Bottom-up movements of patients will really realize the autonomy of the patient. But how reliable are the many medical websites that patients consult before going to the doctor, or that they use as a second opinion during a course of treatment? There is a blurring between regular and alternative care, forced by the nippies (= new hippies). Food&Health becomes a natural combination: if we eat differently, we prevent a lot of diseases. Already now diabetes 2 can be reduced by a different lifestyle. This will soon happen on an even larger scale. Now we pay the doctor to make us better, later we pay the farmer to keep us healthy
