During a workshop we really go into depth about the neurodivergent brain in the workplace. I make sure you know what ADHD and Autism are and what the consequences can be in the workplace. And of course how you can get the best out of this together!
People with ASD or ADHD process information differently. This has a lot of advantages.
People with ASD are often really good specialists. They bite into a subject and know everything about it. And people with ADHD are very creative in, for example, coming up with solutions. Does something not work as described? Then they know a way to make it work!
Super nice qualities! However, there are sometimes disadvantages to having a neurodivergent brain. For example, people with ASD can't place emotions right away. And people with ADHD are often extremes in their emotion.
And that can cause confusion or misunderstanding. Which in turn is very vulnerable for the neurodivergent person in question!
About 25% of the Dutch population has a neurodivergent
brain. Neurodivergence includes autism spectrum disorder (ASD), AD(H)D, dyslexia, dyscalculia, high sensitivity, giftedness, Tourette syndrome and various mental disorders.
About 1% of the population has ASD and about 10% (estimated) of the population has ADHD. In 2021 alone, 245,000 people presented to their family doctor with suspected ADHD. By the way, these figures are not known from ASD.
On top of that, the percentage of adults who will be diagnosed with ASD or ADHD is only expected to rise. And with that, the number of working people with a diagnosis will rise along with it. We as a society must, indeed I say must, be aware of that.
During a workshop we are going to work with factual knowledge! First the knowledge about ADHD and Autism and other neurodivergences. And then with cases from the workplace. I also cover hands on tools for the workplace. By means of a game we will go through the hands on tools! We end with a round table discussion in which openness, communication and expectations play a major role.
