Dipping real wax candles from beeswax together with the beekeeper.
Making candles "like the old days," from natural materials with the delicious, woozy sweet and warm scent of beeswax.
Getting started with pure beeswax!
At this workshop you will learn a lot about beeswax and its extraction beforehand and see many materials from the beekeeping. Then, of course, you will make your own wax candle. This is done by dipping the candles.
Before kerosene, extracted from oil residues, became the main ingredient of many candles, they were made from beeswax. For centuries.
The properties are similar only, of course, beeswax is an all-natural product made by the bees themselves. Bees are tremendously building and make a lot of beeswax per colony every year. By taking the old waxrates out of the hives, the beekeeper helps maintain hygiene in the hive. The bees then build clean new comb again.
These used combs are
melted and purified in water as the wax floats on the water as it solidifies. The impurities remain floating under the wax and are easily cut off from the clean wax after solidification. What remains is pure beeswax, great for making real wax candles!
Unlike candle casting, no mold is used which determines the shape of the final candle. In dipping, you make a candle by repeatedly dipping a weighted wick into melted beeswax.
A fun and enjoyable activity with a beautiful end product! Suitable for young and old and it can be done just at your own location.
