Musical gem from Utrecht: Erick Detremain
Then the stage was cleared - literally and figuratively - for Erick Detremain. With his unique blend of jazz, folk, blues and symphonic influences, this singer-songwriter from Utrecht manages to create an atmosphere in which melancholy and hope effortlessly converge. His guitar is more than an instrument - it is an extension of his soul. Whether he performs in a living room or church, Detremain does not leave his audience unmoved.
(Written by journalist from Radio FM The Hague)
Just as the Impressionists painted a landscape, Erick Detremain paints soundscapes with his guitar: soundscapes! As an art lover, if you think of Monet, Degas and Renoir, with Erick my first thought is of David Gilmour, the fabulous guitarist of Pink Floyd. If you put Jeff Beck to the left of Gilmour, Erick Detremain is on the right. To speak in Pink Floyd terms, his talent until recently was "Obscured By Clouds. Virtuoso, lyrical, technically superb, but no talent scout or A&R manager ever came his way. And he always refused to play in bands that had trinkets on the menu.
So Erick is a lone guitarist, melancholy but full of gusto, performing extremely melodic and versatile tunes. He strings
together his life experiences, read stories and world events with notes and sound effects. It brings out in himself, as well as in the listener, faded and lost memories. To describe Erick's oeuvre as instrumental listening and lounge music, or guitar playing in the melodic styles of jazz, folk, blues or symphonic, detracts from the way he paints with his guitar and echoes stories from his amplifier.
Playing exclusively his own music, Erick does so in churches, living rooms, outdoors on the square and in cultural centers. In a dancing or karaoke bar, you will not encounter this quiet man filled with musical sensibilities. His music is for connoisseurs, for lovers of brilliant, instrumental soundscapes and musical delights.
Performances are up to 1.5 hours maximum.

Erick Detremain hails from Utrecht. This solo artist, with a passion for original work, refuses to be put in a box. His music? An enchanting blend of jazz, blues, folk, and symphonic influences. Think the dreamy solos of David Gilmour and the refined touch of Jeff Beck. Detremain uses his guitar like a diary — pouring emotions and memories into chords and melodies. At times soft, at times stormy. Sometimes intimate, sometimes epic. His performances — whether in churches, living rooms, or any place where the acoustics feel just right — are like a warm blanket for the soul. (via E-mail)

On February 2, I went to Tivoli Vredenburg in Utrecht to attend guitarist Erick Detremain’s performance. It was a complete surprise—a performance filled with beautiful, fluid, and inspiring guitar sounds. Through his explanations of the music he wrote himself, he took us on a journey through his musical story, with refreshing, sometimes almost spiritual sounds.
