For thirty years, the band Van Dik Hout has been at the top with their pure rock and sensitive lyrics. Back then they unleashed a boom in Dutch-language music with "Stil in mij," and even now Van Dik Hout is still a determining factor in Dutch pop. On their new album they collaborate with choice artists such as Ellen ten Damme and Acda en de Munnik.

It has been thirty years since Van Dik Hout stormed the national charts with their indestructible classic Stil In Mij. Four of them, Martin, Sandro Assorgia, (guitar), Dave Rensmaag (guitar) and Ben Kribben (bass) got to know each other at Openbare Scholengemeenschap Nieuwediep, where they started a band in 1985. Drummer Louis de Wit (from Johannes College) joins later. Five gutsy kids with North Holland swagger. They share a warm beating rock heart and love for a ragged guitar sound. Pearl Jam, Neil Young, Stones and Black Crowes are their frame of reference. They are of the Nirvana generation and season their rock with grunge. Martin and Sandro write their first Dutch-language songs together among pizza boxes and Parmesan cheese in a room they call the rock loft, upstairs at Sandro's parents' Costa Smeralda pizzeria. Martin: "I can express myself best in Dutch Dutch-language rock is by no means a given at that time.

The single Stil in Mij - released on May 5, 1994 - is today good for almost 40 million streams on Spotify, but at its release it initially did nothing for a long time. Only when Wim Rigter and Frits Spits started playing Stil In Mij did several broadcasters follow suit. Veronica programs Van Dik Hout on their Hollands Hits Festival. Suddenly 30,000 people were roaring along to Stil In Mij. The summer of 1994 was the summer of Stil In Mij. Around the turn of the century, 3FM listeners voted the song the best Dutch-language single of all time. Debut album Van Dik Hout rapidly went platinum, selling almost 200,000 copies. In 1999 Van Dik Hout formed the occasional formation De Poema's with Acda & Munnik. Together they scored the hits Mijn Houten Hart and Zij maakt Het Verschil (no. 1) and filled the Heineken Music Hall four times.

Van Dik Hout has been a household name in Dutch pop culture for three decades. They have won many awards and prizes. An Edison (best Group National Popular), Golden Hap, three times Best Rock Group according to the readers of Hitkrant. Five times in a row a TMF Award: Best Rock Group Nationally. They also once had a band canary. This one was called Dikkie and died quite soon after the release of their third album Kopstoot Van Een Vlinder. In 2002, they played at the Arena during the wedding concert for Máxima and Willem-Alexander. Their invariably sold-out performances at Paradiso around the turn of the year have since become a legendary annual ritual. They are proud of their festival reputation and have performed at all major festivals: Noorderslag, Parkpop, Lowlands etc. They will never forget their first time at Pinkpop in 1995. Martin: 'We were thrown on such a big stage as young dogs and all nerves and all bravado came together.' Another festival highlight: performing at Concert At Sea in 2018. Sandro: 'A great triumph, gave an inspirational boost.' Three years later, their then-drummer Oscar Kraal passed away. They processed their feelings about this beautifully animated in the song Op De Golven Dansen Wij, which inspired Frits Spits to the title of his recent book. Van Dik Hout consider it a special privilege and look forward to not letting Thirty Years Silent In Me pass by silently, but to exuberantly and loudly rocking with their fans on Saturday, May 18, 2024 in AFAS LIVE in Amsterdam and for a long time afterwards
