Johan Cruijff once said, "You only see it when you realize it." And that is exactly what this presentation is about: Awareness in the field of cybercrime and cybersecurity.
During this informative presentation, Rob Koch provides insight into how cybercriminals entice their victims in a fun way and with many examples. It is an informal, non-technical presentation of about 1 hour with lots of interaction and suitable for anyone using the Internet.
In their activities, cybercriminals often target people. People who (at work and in private life) use the Internet with their computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones.
Cybercriminals use "clever tricks" to fool their victims.
Through these "clever tricks," cybercriminals repeatedly manage to gain access to confidential business information or to retrieve their victims' login credentials. The media reports the consequences on a daily basis. Businesses suffer major operational, financial and reputational damage as a result.
These "clever tricks" are often based on a method called "Social Engineering." Very ordinary human traits are exploited. Traits that we all have and that we should not be ashamed of. But we must realize that misuse of those traits can have major consequences.
In this informal and informative
presentation, Rob Koch explains what Social Engineering is and how cybercriminals use these methods to trick their victims into clicking on a link, opening an email attachment or sharing confidential information. It is certainly not a technical story, but a clear, interactive presentation with many examples. Security Awareness is an important measure to reduce cyber risks. If people understand the methods used by hackers they are also less likely to fall for such tricks. Johan Cruijff was right back then: "You only start seeing it when you realize it."
The presentation will last about 1.5 hours.
