Born in Leeuwarden, Wilfred studied law in his later life in Groningen where he also worked for the local broadcasting company. After his studies, Wilfred decided to fully focus on
becoming a sports presenter, which he had wanted to become since childhood.
From local broadcasting Wilfred grew to other players such as Filmnet, Sport 7 and SBS6 and ended up at RTL. With many TV jobs behind him, Wilfred Genee still remains active on TV.

Recently we had a fantastic gala in Huis ter Duin where Wilfred Genee was our chairman of the day. Under his inspiring and very professional leadership this evening became a big party. He had fantastically prepared himself in the history of our club and very expertly conducted a number of interviews with some of our (honorary) members. It seemed as if he himself had been a member of our club for 25 years. From the beginning to the end there was a great atmosphere in the hall. At the end Wilfred himself also sang a song by Hazes, which showed that he himself was enjoying himself enormously.
