Melati Wijsen (born 2001) is an Indonesian climate activist. She has been taking action against plastic pollution for years and with great success; at a young age, she succeeded in making the island of Bali free of plastic bags. To gain public attention, in 2016 she organized a hunger strike from dawn to dusk and successfully demanded a meeting with the then governor of Bali, I Made Mangku Pastika . The campaign led Pastika to sign an order banning Styrofoam, plastic bags and straw from the island starting in 2018. In 2017, she spoke at the United Nations World Ocean Day in New York City. In 2020, Melati was an invited speaker at the World Economic Forum in
Davos. In 2019, a documentary film about Melati Wijsen titled Bigger than Us was released. The film nominated at Cannes recently appeared in Dutch movie houses. Melati is the founder of Youthtopia, a platform for youth empowerment.
