Jazzy Folkrock that touches the heart and soul.
A strong and warm voice, acoustic guitar, tenor saxophone, bass and silky smooth drums ... this is a truly unique sound!
In 2002, folk singer and songwriter Herbert "Herby" Van Santen and tenor saxophonist - jazzman Jan
Noerens, who had been friends for years, also found each other musically.
They combined their musical styles in the duo "Othmar." A unique combination of jazz and folk that
audiences and press soon christened jazzyfolk. Eight years and hundreds of concerts later in clubs,
theaters and festivals at home and abroad, they stopped working together in 2010 due to other
projects.
Now, twenty years after the formation of Othmar, they decided to pick up the thread and let audiences enjoy
their unique sound. That sound is a combination of Herby's warm, powerful voice and guitar playing, in
perfect harmony with Jan's compelling and uplifting sax sound. Both original work and
surprising adaptations
of well-known and lesser-known songs are brought to the stage.
This time, Jan and Herby decided to spice things up with a slightly larger lineup, taking on jazz
veteran Didier Heggerick on bass and the extremely talented young drummer Gabriel Noerens with
them on the road.
Othmar XL is jazzy folk with a spicy edge and a truly unique vocal and musical sound. Songs about love,
loss, longing and life on the road take the audience on an emotional, shaky and sometimes very funny way
journey. A must see and hear for any music lover!
