The Coo is an international folk duo, British Matt and Dutch Jara met by chance at an open mic and have since been writing songs together about love and life that they perform in two voices, with guitars and sometimes ukulele. Think: Carole King and James Taylor, Angus & Julia Stone. Warm, harmonious folk with beautiful melodies and lyrics that stick with you.
International folk duo The Coo consists of songwriters Matt Arthur and Jara Holdert. They live at a distance - in London and Amsterdam, and met by chance at an Amsterdam open mic. They immediately felt a musical kinship that they further developed during overseas visits, writing songs and performing with each other. In 2019, The Coo recorded their debut album during a concert in an Amsterdam shul, where they sang about their meeting, their connection and the distance. Amsterdam Moon won "album of the year" at the NativeDSD label. With two guitars and two voices intertwining and breaking away from each other, you can hear how two musical souls find each other in harmony. The warm, melancholy love songs are reminiscent of folk and pop from the sixties and seventies, artists like Carole King & James Taylor; Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and contemporary artists like Angus & Julia Stone.
