Over the years Micheal has grown into a versatile musician and is particularly at home in Jazz and Latin music. A fantastic technique combined with his unprecedented passion results in beautiful music. Great to listen to; perfect to dance to.
"I was once told that I am the Latin Chet Backer, because I play very lyrically, and with a warm sound, but also that I articulate my lines with great awareness of Latin rhythms.
In general, I describe myself as a versatile musician, who is at home in both Jazz and Latin music. I play with ease as a solo trumpet player, in a wind section or as a duo, together with a pianist, guitarist or with a DJ."
Dutch trumpeter of Venezuelan descent, Michael Simon, known for Fra Fra Sound, the Rob Mostert Hammond Group and Gerardo Rosales' groups, was born in the coastal town of Cardón, where he played with his musician brothers from the age of six. He
studied trumpet in Venezuela, in Cuba, and in 1993 he came to the Netherlands to study Jazz at the Rotterdam Conservatory, where he also specialized in composition and arranging."
"Especially for weddings, receptions and private parties where a Caribbean atmosphere fits I have a nice repertoire of Cuban and Puerto Rican Boleros (ballads), Rumbas, Cha-Cha-Cha and Venezuelan/Antillean waltzes. This makes it easy to play together with a pianist or a guitarist - in acoustic setting. For a variety of events such as fashion shows, fairs, receptions, weddings, festivals and parties, I have a great (big) band consisting of 1 lady and 9 men. It is a musical experience that you can bring to your catering industry, event or private occasion. The shows are professional, entertaining and above all a feast for the senses. Genre? A musical show consisting of the Evergreens, The American Songbook and Pop hits in a Jazzy jacket."
