Long before he started spinning records on occasions, Selektor Mendes was an active collector of vinyl records and singles. However, he was never about collecting, only about the music: soul, funk, Latin and jazz. This passion was quickly noticed and a career as a DJ was born...
Since 2007, Selektor Mendes has been regularly asked to perform at various public events, including the North Sea Jazz Festival, the Bimhuis and the International Film Festival Rotterdam, as a tour DJ with leading jazz and pop bands and as a resident DJ in, for example, Lantaren-Venster (Rotterdam). In addition, Selektor Mendes is a welcome guest at private parties: weddings, birthdays, openings, etc.
The given price is based on a standard DJ-set of 3 hours, with DJ-booth, PA and lighting on site. With the technique included, there is a surcharge of € 225. When you let us know your specific wishes regarding playing time and technique, we will make you a tailor-made price.
Selektor Mendes understands the art of playing like
no other. Like an occasion, an afternoon or an evening, has its course, every set has a beginning, a middle and an end. Every occasion is different, which is why a set can never be the same. Like a musical intermediary, Selektor Mendes positions himself between the audience and his vinyl, creating a set that suits the occasion. With the right record at the right time, he knows how to provide the perfect background, heighten the atmosphere or fill the dance floor.
Big inspiration are the rich sixties and seventies, which have much, if not everything to offer in terms of soul and funk. In between, jazz and Latin from the fifties and an occasional song from the "eighties" can be heard. The playlist below gives an idea of the repertoire at his disposal.
