In 1985, Gerard broke through with third place in the final of Henny Huisman's Soundmix show. For his first hit "Love is in your Eyes," Gerard was awarded double platinum. 'Ticket to the Tropics' quickly reached the No. 1 position. From that moment on, everyone knows who Gerard Joling is!

Gerards achieved gold status with his first album even during pre-sales. With the album 'No More Boleros', released in no less than 22(!) countries, he surpasses his previous success. 'No More Boleros' subsequently spent weeks at number one in both the Netherlands and the Far East.

Until 2008, Gerard was part of the Toppers. After his departure, his place was taken over by Jeroen van der Boom. Gerard continued solo with his own music and in 2010 he celebrated his 25th anniversary in music. Gerard has also presented many TV shows over the years, including 'Sterren Springen', 'Vliegende Hollanders', 'Popstars', 'K2 zoekt K3' and 'Sterren Dansen op het IJs'. He could also be seen for years in ''Geer en Goor'' together with Gordon.
