Ruth Jacott has been an integral part of the Dutch music industry for many years. With hits like Heartbeat, Peace, Lean On Me, I Go On and Stay With Me she has sung herself right into the hearts of the Netherlands.

After Ruth and the VARA team (Lisa Boray and Marielle Tromp) won first prize at the Knokke Festival in 1986, the great work begins. In 1987 Ruth plays the role of Grisabella in the Dutch version of Cats. Later she plays the same role for a few months in Switzerland. In 1989 she gets the role of Dinah in the musical A Night at the Cotton Club with a.o. Humphrey Campbell and Madeline Bell. For this Ruth received a Silver Harp.

In 1993 Ruth represented the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest in Ireland. With the song Vrede (Peace) she reached the sixth place. Her debut album Ruth Jacott was released shortly afterwards and in that same year she scored a big hit with Blijf Bij Mij, a duet with Paul de Leeuw. Many albums follow and reach gold, platinum and double platinum status.

Ruth Jacott did her first theatre tour in 1995, after which many more tours followed. In 1996 the Conamus Foundation decided to award her a Golden Harp for her versatile qualities and craftsmanship. The jury report especially praised her spectacular live shows.

In the years that followed, Ruth released many successful albums and singles, did major shows and theatre tours, sang the title track of the film Kruimeltje (1999), and played Vals Verlangen live in Carré (2000).

In 2007 Ruth can be admired in the theatres with her impressive show A Touch Of Latin with some Spanish songs, which will be released on DVD later that year. Later that season Ruth is on stage in the title role of Billie Holiday, produced by V&V entertainment. Ruth receives the John Kraaijkamp Musical Award in the category best female lead in a small musical.

In 2009 Ruth can be seen in a brand new own production; Passion. With this she travels all over the country. Not much later the eponymous album was released.

Following on from the musical Billie Holiday, the album A Tribute To Billie Holiday will be released in 2010, recorded with the Metropole Orchestra conducted by the American conductor Michael Abene. For this they received the Edison Audience Award. That same year, Ruth was guest of honour during the great spectacle of De Toppers in the Amsterdam Arena. That year she also plays a guest role in the television programme Het Spaanse Schaep (The Spanish Sheep).

In 2011, Ruth will start a new theatre production Simply The Best in collaboration with V&V Entertainment; over 70 performances have been shown in the major theatres in the Netherlands. The theatre program consisted of songs by Jacott's musical heroines of soul and jazz, such as Tina Turner, Billie Holiday, Diana Ross and Beyoncé.

2013 Ruth Jacott will tour the country with the production A Lady On Stage, in collaboration with Albert Verlinde Entertainment. The title is taken from the beautiful modern classic Quiet please, there's a lady on stage. A song that beautifully describes what it's like to be alone on stage as a woman. She alternates her own successes with the musical pearls of other Ladies. Happiness and sadness, highs and lows, sing-alongs and moments of listening - it all came along.

Then, in 2014 a new single will be released: Verliefd Verward en later that year Hou Van Mij. Ruth will also release the album Ik Adem Je In (produced by Ellert Driessen). Then in 2015 the singles Laat Me and Iets will be released.

In 2017 Ruth will tour the country with shows under the name RUTH. She has played sixty of them. That year NPO also broadcast a special about the singer's career.
