His love for André's music started at a very young age. As a young boy Nico brightened up family parties by playing songs from his idol. Because of his busy life in sports, Nico had to put aside his chance to attend a concert of Hazes in the Amsterdam Arena. He did promise his friends that he would attend the next big concert at all costs. Because of André's sudden
death in 2004, this was his funeral.
The first step as an imitator actually started in a funny way. By losing a bet in 2004 Nico had to sing a few songs of his idol in return. More and more people became more and more convinced of Nico's singing talent, so they started asking him more and more to perform at parties and events. Not always easy to combine when you know that Nico spent almost every weekend abroad for the sport.
