Swinging music in a pleasant ambiance! From Elvis to Dave Brubeck and from Doris Day to Fats Domino. Songs by Stevie Wonder and Ede Staal also belong to the possibilities. Timeless and unforgettable music where now, 60 years later, the energy still splashes from! Suitable for example for a 50th wedding anniversary, opening of an exhibition, garden party etcetera.
We also offer a Roaring Twenties program.
WHAT WE DO:
The repertoire offers highlights from Jazz, Swing, Rhythm & Blues, Rock 'n Roll and The Roaring Twenties.
In doing so, the Alto Quartet has put together a unique program especially for those who experienced their youth in the 1950s to 1970s under the title:
The Retro Project:
"Back to the Fifties and the Swinging Sixties"
From Elvis to Dave Brubeck and from Doris Day to Fats Domino. Timeless and unforgettable music from which now, 60 years later, the energy still radiates! The reactions are overwhelmingly enthusiastic and this has led to invitations to perform at the Dutch Embassy in Washington DC and the New Jewish Home in Manhattan, New York, among others!
The Alto Quartet also has a number of songs by
Stevie Wonder on the program. And also pieces by Ede Staal, the famous singer from Groningen, are not missing!
The Alto Quartet gave its first performance on March 31, 2017 at the last concert in the illustrious jazz café Alto in downtown Groningen. Hugo Beukema owned and operated the café and is also a saxophonist in the Alto Quartet. The café has unfortunately disappeared but the Alto Quartet is the living legacy: Swinging music in a pleasant ambiance! Since this memorable performance, the Alto Quartet has given more than 300 performances, both indoors and outdoors and in church and pub (Jazz festivals, Museum Night, Art Events, Care Institutions, etc.)
Hans Bosch - tenor saxophone/clarinet/arrangements
An old hand in the business, for 40 years he performed on all the jazz stages in Groningen and far beyond (Quadro Sax, Jumping the Blues, Baritone Madness, Beau Hunks, etc.)
Julia Flenter - baritone saxophone / vocals
Played lead alto with the Moonlight Bigband , is the solid base with the Alto quartet and is also blessed with a beautiful voice.
Tineke Koops - alto saxophone
Tineke Koops has been playing alto saxophone since she was twelve years old. She started in the brass band and now enjoys playing blues, jazz and New Orleans. She thinks the saxophone is the most beautiful instrument because of its sound and because it has so many similarities to singing!
Hugo Beukema - tenor saxophone
Highly appreciated on the Groningen music circuit because of his efforts to offer a stage to countless national and international jazz musicians. In the process always recognizable by his beautiful lived-in saxophone sound and as jazz journalist Eddie Determeyer put it "probably of all the Dutch hospitality players the world's best saxophonist."
