The general public knows Kim de Boer as a final candidate of The Voice Of Holland. But the musician has many more sides, which she would like to show to a wide audience. Her album will follow later this year, first the down-to-earth North Holland singer-songwriter delivers a rock-solid foretaste with her single Back.
She made her first musical steps as a six-year-old girl. When her older sister took piano lessons, Kim soon played everything. It turned out that she had discovered her passion. Ever since she was a child she wrote her own songs and spent whole days singing à la her idols Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. Kim was far too shy to let her music be heard outdoors, until she took part in a talent show in high school. The combination of being allowed to sing a self-written song and accompanying herself on the piano won her over. She won, and decided on the spot that she wanted to continue in the music. After a successful audition she completed the
vocal training at the Alkmaar Conservatory of Music.
During and after her training Kim put what she learned into practice. From the age of eighteen she did solo performances and built up a local reputation. She participated in the radio talent show BNN For Live and won, which resulted in several radio appearances and one day in the recording studio. Kim played in famous cover bands and with Booming Pianos, touring all over the Netherlands. She also gave singing workshops for high school students and later lessons at home, worked as a conductor and arranger with several choirs
In 2010 Kim participated in the first season of The Voice Of Holland, and immediately stood out with her very own version of Adam Lambert's hit Whataya Want From Me, for which all four judges turned their chairs during the blind auditions. Kim chose coach Angela Groothuizen and made it to the finals. The program resulted in her first hit single, Change. In addition, John de Mol personally asked her to participate in the national preliminary round for the Eurovision Song Contest, where she impressed with the beautiful song Children Of The World.
She didn't win, but Kim went home with a good feeling. And decided, during that drive back: "Now it's my time". She would do her thing now. An album of her own had been Kim's dream for years, so she approached Ton Dijkman, known as a top drummer with Marco Borsato and others, but also producer and owner of a studio. With her demo of eleven songs they went to work
The first result of that collaboration is the single Back, a midtempo song with which Kim gives a strong foretaste of her debut album. It will be released this fall and will be filled with the style where her heart lies: pop with a soul jacket and a 'typical Kim sound'. That tastes like more - just a little more patience!
