interwar music from both Europe and South America
The Eisler trio, consisting of Bauwien van der Meer, Annedee Jaeger and Joris van Haaften, connects music from the interwar period with composers who focused on both Europe and South America. Add to this the remarkable combination of soprano, guitar and cello and it is clear that the audience will hear a programme that is not very commonplace. The setting is rich in contrast: while in the 1930s Europe was heading for a crisis of unprecedented grimness, in the same period in South America there was room for 'saudade', an untranslatable sweet-martish desire. These contrasting atmospheres form the basis of the programme 'Es wechseln die Zeiten', which thus contains a wide range of musical styles and moods. Villa-Lobos is
a name that quickly comes up. He used typically Brazilian forms of folk music, but wove his love for the music of Johann Sebastian Bach through it in a unique way, and appropriately called the result Bachianas Brasileiras. But the link from a German perspective is also highlighted: Kurt Weill's song 'Youkali' is a tango habanera about a fictional island full of beautiful dreams. The trio lives up to its name by giving the penetrating, under-heard music of Hanns Eisler an important place in the programme. Their CD with this program, released in 2012, received 4 stars in "Luister" (Listen) and was praised in the music magazine HVT as "a sound jewel". Recently in December 2016 they released another CD with many more rave reviews. See their site for that.
Hope to hear from you if you are interested in performing with our trio.
