The Chroma Piano Quintet is a semi-professional ensemble from Flanders. We regularly provide live music for a wide variety of occasions: from atmospheric background music at receptions, weddings, and wedding ceremonies to intimate chamber music concerts.
Through our collaboration with composer and pianist Stijn Michiels, we perform a captivating program of neoclassical music (audience favorites such as Ludovico Einaudi, Max Richter, Ólafur Arnalds, and Hans Zimmer) combined with arranged pop covers. We can also include original compositions upon request.

The Chroma Quartet is a dynamic, semi-professional string quartet based in the Zele, Lokeren, and Ghent region. Born out of a close musical friendship that began with the Ghent University Symphony Orchestra (GUSO), violinists and brothers Anthony and Michael Pil, together with Jakob Dewyspelaere and Briek De Malsche, form the heart of this ensemble. After a series of successful performances at venues including intimate chamber music concerts, receptions, weddings, and graduation ceremonies, we decided to found the Chroma Quartet in early 2025.

The name Chroma was not chosen by chance: it stands for color, richness of sound, and vibration. The quartet has made it their mission to transport listeners into a lively, atmospheric, and multi-layered palette of sounds. The repertoire spans an exceptionally broad spectrum: from traditional masterpieces and classical chamber music to fiery tangos and versatile renditions of well-known pop covers and folk songs.

A Unique Enrichment: Piano Quintet & Neo-Classical Atmosphere
One of the most compelling developments in the Chroma Quartet’s work is its close collaboration with composer and pianist Stijn Michiels. When the string quartet and the piano come together in a piano quintet, a warm, monumental dynamic emerges that is perfectly suited for lovers of captivating music.

In this configuration, the ensemble presents a richly varied program brimming with iconic neo-classical pieces and recognizable soundscapes. Think of the soothing and harmonious soundscapes of audience favorites such as:

In addition to these impressive neoclassical pieces and epic film scores, the piano quintet adds recognizable elements through arranged pop covers and original compositions by Stijn Michiels himself. With this original material, the ensemble has crafted a complete, well-balanced one-hour concert program—including the atmospheric concert *Reflections*—in which the dialogue between the fingers on the piano and the bows on the strings is showcased to its fullest.

Whether it’s a subdued and elegant concert program or stylish, tailor-made background music that perfectly matches the atmosphere of a special event, the Chroma Quartet knows how to fill any space with musical color through craftsmanship, passion, and diversity.
