Gustavo Corrales Romero, born in Guantánamo, is a seasoned specialist: through his production company, he has been promoting the “other sound of Latin America” for years. To do so, he draws on a 200-year-old, wide-ranging repertoire of Latin American classical works. The results include the CDs *Palimpsesto* (An Evolution of the Cuban Piano) and *Fresco* (Latin American Classical and Contemporary Piano Music).

He owes his refinement to his 17 years of training in the Russian school of piano, culminating at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow and the “Instituto Superior de Arte” in Havana. Since then, he has built a rich career: numerous national and international festivals and concerts in South America, the Caribbean, and Europe. Both new and returning audiences express great appreciation for the opportunity to experience his repertoire.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
■ Gustavo communicates in English or Spanish and understands Dutch.
■ Advance coordination is handled by his business partner and wife, Karen.
■ Rates on Showbird: €300, €375, €475 (30–45–60 minutes), excluding travel expenses and VAT.
■ We’ll definitely work out the travel expenses! Free within The Hague! The amount listed per km is an estimate. This covers door-to-door public transportation; a taxi will be used only if absolutely necessary.
■ The scheduled duration can be “broken up” in consultation to accommodate multiple performance segments during your event, as long as it’s clear to your audience that silence is expected when the music is playing: this act is NOT offered as background music.
■ This repertoire is enhanced when Gustavo provides some commentary in between pieces (in English or Spanish). We’ll decide together whether he should strictly adhere to the time limit or if going slightly over is acceptable. This is included in the price. A purely musical performance is also an option!

In the 19th and early 20th centuries, the salons of Havana and the surrounding region were the ultimate melting pot where European classical traditions blended with Afro-Cuban and other Latin American rhythms. Gustavo takes this historical foundation as the starting point for a carefully curated program of charming musical portraits inspired by folkloric influences from dance and song.

Thanks to their inventive connection to their popular counterparts (such as the waltz, tango, danza, joropo, son, pasillo, and habanera), these pieces are pleasantly accessible and possess great evocative power. Virtuoso gems by Latin American composers, including Cervantes and Lecuona, and other masters from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Curaçao, and Mexico.

A fertile ground for Gustavo’s own modern-classical compositions, which beautifully complement a captivating and intimate recital featuring a perfect balance between nostalgic Latin American warmth, classical depth, and rhythmic innovation. And the repertoire is one that can’t be heard or obtained anywhere else!
