Few singers have had a career as long as Anita Meyer’s. It all began in 1976 when she had her breakthrough with the single “The Alternative Way.” This song became her first No. 1 single, but certainly not her last. That same year, she was named the most popular singer in the Netherlands, thanks to the success of “The Alternative Way.”

A few years later, the album “Shades of Desire” was released, featuring the legendary single “Why Tell Me Why?”. This song kept Anita at the number 1 spot on the charts for weeks. It also became the best-selling single of 1981! The album’s success led to Anita releasing even more hits: “They Don’t Play Our Lovesong Anymore” and “Blame It On Love” are just a few examples of successful songs from that period.

However, the success of “Why Tell Me Why” remains unmatched; even in Sweden and France, covers of the song reached high positions in the Top 40.

In 1986, she collaborated with Lee Towers on “Run to Me,” a cover of the Bee Gees’ song. This track earned Anita her last Top 10 chart position. She also recorded “Het Spijt Me,” the theme song for the television show of the same name.

In 2005, Anita served as team captain on the popular TV show “Het Gevoel Van…”. She also played the role of Grizabella in the musical *Cats*.

A few years have passed since then, and Anita is still performing. She is a welcome guest at major concerts such as “Toppers in Concert” and “Holland Zingt Hazes.” Anita is also the only artist to have competed twice on “Beste Zangers” and was the winner of season three.
